Column Dresses and Evening Gowns

Let’s take the focus away from the bride for once and talk about what to wear to a wedding if you’re not walking down the aisle. When I think of wedding wear, the first thing that comes to mind is a knee-length cocktail dress, but I’m considering wearing a floor-length dress to a wedding I’ll be attending soon. With the right cut and a pair of heels, floor-length dresses can be absolutely chic and figure-flattering.

For an afternoon wedding or outdoor wedding, consider a dress in pastel colors. It suits the occasion better, not to mention that a pastel-colored dress will stand out once the day turns into night. This dress is mostly unadorned except for the ruffled trim on the sleeves, which gives you a lot of room to play with accessories – try a headband with a large flower or a beaded clutch.

Dresses in darker colors are good too, especially if the wedding will take place in a hotel ballroom. This particular cut – deep v-neck and empire waist – is perfect for petite girls because it gives the illusion of height.

For truly formal affairs, consider a A-line evening gown with a full skirt.

I wouldn’t wear a full evening gown to an outdoor wedding though; the hem of your dress is bound to get all dirty!
