Hot Wedding Trends

Last week, I presented a short list of wedding cliches brides are avoiding like the plague. Now that you know what not to do for your wedding, here are some hot new trends you might want to consider using on your big day.

Gloves

This subtle accessory is a great way to add vintage elements to your look. What’s great about gloves is that they’re no longer made in itchy lace or satin (as a child, I wore these white lace gloves when I served as a flower girl – I hated how my hands itched after). You can now get them in sheer, lightweight fabrics that are more comfy in tropical climes.

White wedding party

Wearing white to a wedding used to be the biggest fashion faux pas a woman could ever make, but all-white wedding parties are making a huge comeback. During ancient Rome, bridesmaids wore the same color as the bride to confuse evil spirits who might want to harm her. Today, white wedding parties are preferred for their picture-perfect look.

Braids

Lose the uptight up-do and return to a childhood favorite! Braids are a great way to add a bohemian, romantic feel to your hairstyle.

Cotton bridesmaids dresses

Going back to your bridal party, try decking your bridesmaids in cotton rather than satin or silk. This comfy fabric can be used for flattering fits and to add a carefree feel to your wedding. Bonus points: they’re more affordable than heavier fabrics.

Full photo set

In the wedding cliches article, I suggested giving out personal wedding favors like photobooth pictures instead of ornamental wedding doodads. Up your photobooth station one notch by opting for a complete photo set. These professionally made backdrops add a whole new dimension to wedding portraiture and will give your guests the chance to really ham it up.
