Spring 2013 Wedding Dress Trend: Portrait Backs

The sexy backs we’ve been seeing from previous seasons is all over the runway for spring 2013, but with a twist. Instead of revealing the bride’s smooth back and toned shoulders, designers shift their focus onto adding romance to the look with elaborate lace frames, delicate embroidery, and just the slightest hint of skin through peekaboo keyholes. Though the look is still undoubtedly sexy, the appliques and embroideries add more modesty and mystery for those who prefer a more conservative look. Above: a romantic lace dress with a keyhole back from Amsale.

This gown from Reem Acra is nothing short of a work of art. Glittering beads and Swarovski crystals embroidered onto sheer fabric makes it look like the bodice is covered by delicate snowflakes.

The cutout back adds a little more spice to this sugary-sweet Kenneth Pool lace dress.

A slender keyhole adds interest to the back of this dramatic black gown by Isaac Mizrahi for Kleinfeld.

The brides shoulder blades are framed by stunning lacework in this Anna Maier/Ulla-Maija gown.
