It would do no justice to master couturier Oscar de la Renta if I put his massive spring 2013 bridal collection into a single blog post. There is so much to see in this 35-piece collection that it helps to break them down into themes. Unlike many shows in Bridal Market, which featured designs that revolve around a theme, Oscar de la Renta wedding dresses for spring 2013 are available in a wide variety of styles, from the classic ivory gown to less conventional choices. Today I’d like to highlight the colored wedding dresses from his collection, which feature vampy red gowns and soft blue hues that will make even the most old-fashioned bride think twice about wearing white on her wedding day. Above – a rich red velvet gown takes its cue from a medieval romance.

Powder blue joins champagne and pale pink as color options for wedding dresses! I like that this gown came completely unembellished; beadwork and embroidery would only detract from the beautiful simplicity of this dress.

A pale blue ball gown maintains a traditional appearance, thanks to a white crochet overlay.

A pale blue train on a lace column dress presents a great compromise to brides who like color but can’t bear to give up the white wedding dress completely.

Here’s another way of combining the color trend with a traditional white dress, though I’m not too crazy about the tiered blue tulle skirt.

An extravagant red gown ended the show with a bang. Featuring a sweetheart neckline and a full ballgown with cascading ruffles, this dramatic gown is proof that romance need not be so serious.
