Lace sleeves
Since the Royal wedding took place a few weeks after the April bridal market (the bridal industry’s equivalent of fashion week), many wedding dress designers took their cue from Kate Middleton’s style and tried to guess what she would wear. For some of these designers, this meant a sleeker, more modern version of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress. Turns out they weren’t far off from the truth. As you probably already know, Kate Middleton’s wedding dress did have long lace sleeves, and a number of brides will probably want the same look. The dress above is taken from Legends by Romona Keveza, and I love how the mantilla veil adds drama to the whole look.
Illusion neckline
Brides-to-be who prefer shorter sleeves (or no sleeves at all) can still get the same look with the illusion neckline trend. This style makes use of a sheer, often embroidered layer of fabric to hide skin that would have been exposed otherwise. Blush pink
A few years ago, wedding dresses in any other color but white was virtually unheard of. But thanks to Reese Witherspoon’s wedding dress by Monique Lhuillier, blush pink wedding dresses are an interesting new bridal trend this year. I wonder how many brides will dare to wear pink down the aisle this year? I certainly wouldn’t say no to this stunning gown from Vera Wang’s spring bridal collection.
Horsehair
Horsehair isn’t made from horse fur; on the contrary, it’s a synthetic fabric placed underneath ballgowns to create a crisp hemline and clean shape. Today, this underlay material is now being worn on the outside, either as a bodice detail or as a visible hemline. Again, another dress from Vera Wang’s spring collection makes use of this trend.
