Wedding Cake Trends for 2008

A unique and one-of-a-kind wedding cake is what every bride would want for her wedding, but all wedding cakes follow some sort of trend in terms of the materials used or the decorating style. If you’re planning your wedding for next year, you might want to take a look at some of the predicted wedding cake trends for 2008. It’s never too early to start planning the sugary sweet to top off your wedding ceremony!
Letterpress patterns
Letterpress patterns don’t have to be limited to wedding invitations. This design is a trendy but elegant way to bring out your wedding gown’s ornate embroidery, your invitations design, or even the patterns on your dishes. Letterpress patterns are made out of fondant and are carved out using custom-made stamps. Ideal for intricate designs and elegant weddings.
Oversized flowers
If you don’t want to pay a lot of money for a cake covered with flowers, using a few oversized flowers is the best alternative. This design works best with contrasts: a plain-colored cake goes great with flowers that are normally small and dainty, like daisies.
Believable colors
Organic, sophisticated, muted colors are still the best ones to choose for your wedding cake. A monochromatic cake in varying shades might get popular – for instance, make the floral accents of your triple-tiered cake go in lighter shades as they wrap around the cake and lead up to the top tier.
Mixed shapes
Tiers with contrasting shapes give a bold look to a basic cake. You could have a different shape for every tier or alternating shapes of hexagons and circles. If you’re not sure what shapes to include, look at your reception room. For ballrooms, you could try out a square bottom tier and have the rest in round shapes. For a casual wedding, play around with a combination of square, hexagon, and round tiers.
