Vintage-Style Wedding Shoes

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Vintage-inspired wedding shoes don’t always have to be worn with a vintage wedding dress; as a matter of fact, it’s generally not advisable to do so. Dressing up in vintage from head to toe will only make you look dated, but mixing and matching vintage and modern pieces achieves a more balanced and stylish look. That being said, these vintage-style wedding shoes by Canadian designer Peter Fox are absolutely gorgeous. Consider wearing shoes like these with a short wedding dress – they’ll make your wedding look a little more theatrical and dramatic, not to mention that they’re too pretty to be kept hidden under layers of tulle and tafetta!

Made of dyeable Italian silk-satin, this stunning bridal shoe style used to be all the rage in French royal courts and was featured in the movie The Butcher’s Wife starring Demi Moore. The beaded brooch and fan will add opulence to any wedding dress, but it’s probably best to wear this style with a simple, unembellished wedding gown or risk looking like a peacock.

Custom Made Bridal Shoes

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Some brides choose to scrimp on their shoes; I think it pays to pay a little extra for comfortable footwear on your wedding day. Whether or not it’s a formal ceremony, you’re probably going to be on your feet all evening, going from table to table to chat up your guests or have photos taken with them. In fact, I imagine less formal wedding celebrations will be spent dancing the evening away, and you can’t have a lot of fun dancing if you wear cheap, uncomfortable shoes that will probably give you blisters if you walk in them enough.

If you have a little more money to spare, it might be a good idea to get custom-made bridal shoes. Because they’re especially made just for you, you’re guaranteed two things: 1) you can dance the night away without worrying about blisters or corns forming, 2) you’ll get nothing less than the wedding shoes of your dreams. Always wanted a pair of Chloe shoes but can’t afford to pay for the shoes and the shipping costs? Have them replicated easy! And if you’re a stickler for matching things, you can have the appliques on your wedding shoes match the embroidery or beadwork of your wedding dress if you choose to have them custom made.

There aren’t many companies who provide custom-made wedding shoes, but there’s a wedding industry newbie who provides this unique service. Perfect Match Shoes and Ties creates custom-made shoes for brides and women with discriminating tastes. You can choose from a wide variety of styles available, or you can present your own design and have them produced especially for you. They also have wedding packages if you want shoes made for your bridesmaids and flower girls too.

Marikina-based shoemaker Jose Enriquez also provides custom-made shoes for brides. Since 1955 he has been making handcrafted ladies shoes and today, his shoe brands Figlia and Marie Nicole are one of the major players in the local footwear industry. Visit the Figlia website for more information on their custom-made shoes.

Wedding Shoes with Character

Monday, November 10th, 2008

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to what shoes to wear on your wedding day. Generally, brides prefer wearing formal satin shoes that come in the same shade of white as their wedding dress, like the one above. But who says that white is the only color your wedding shoes can come in? Don’t be afraid to make a bold statement by wearing a splash of color or a flashy accent on your feet!

These white satin pumps by Oscar de la Renta is part of his wedding collection and features a diamond-encrusted accent. No wonder this beautiful pair costs a whopping $695! But you don’t have to shell out that much money to give your white wedding shoes a little more character. Just get two jeweled brooches – they don’t have to be made out of real diamonds – and pin one on the strap of each shoe.

I’m not sure Kate Spade meant for these pink and purple watercolor satin heels to be used during weddings, but does it matter? These shoes would look perfect on a bride carrying a matching pink and purple rose bouquet.

The faded detail of these pink peep-toe pumps by Vince Camuto is ideal for brides who want to wear a little color while maintaining a more conservative, traditional look.

And last but not the least, my favorite – suede polka-dotted shoes with a red patent leather strap by Marc Jacobs. The retro elements on these shoes make them go best with a lacy vintage wedding gown or a bohemian wedding dress. And the best part is that you can wear them with all sorts of dresses way after your wedding!

Trendy Wedding Shoes

The trendy new wedding gowns at the New York Fashion Week reveal sleek wedding gown styles that resemble Oscar gowns more than bridal wear. Elegant strapless dresses, trumpet shapes, filmy above-the-knee looks, and slits that go all the way up to your thighs. Now you might be wondering – what kind of shoes do you wear with a trendy wedding gown?

There are two ways to go about doing this. If your dress is very intricate and has a slit, or is short enough that your feet will be visible, consider elegant but simple slingback shoes. Nine West carries refined styles that won’t outshine your dress but look better than your basic strappy heels.

For girls who shudder at the thought of wearing a white wedding dress, lots of designers in Fashion Week included a lot of dual and tri-color wedding gowns in their collection. For your footwear, you can choose shoes that will match the color of your dress – red heels to match the red empire sash on your waist, for instance. You can also try shoes in silver or gold for a complementary instead of matching look.

Finally, if you’d like a traditional, long white wedding dress, now’s the time for you to go all-out on your shoes and wear whatever you want! They won’t be seen at the ceremony and you can show them off during the reception. Imagine how unique it would look for your fuschia-pink, black-feathered toes to peek out from out of your dress as you walk down the aisle.
