kara-dioguardi-wedding

I can’t believe I missed this last year! Music producer and American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi got married last July at a very private ceremony in Maine. Her husband is actually someone far removed from showbiz – his name is Mike McCuddy and he’s a general contractor who built the house next to her summer house in Prospect Harbor . They met when she marched next door to complain about how the house he was building was too close to hers. She found him hot, they ended up dating, and they got engaged during a vacation in Mexico.

Spring 2010 Bridal Trend: Peplums

peplum

I just spotted this interesting trend in the spring 2010 runway. Peplums are a small ruffle or over-skirt attached to the waistline of a long dress. The word peplum is actually Greek for “tunic”, but it also has a second meaning that dates all the way back to the 19th century – a short overskirt usually attached to a dress’s waist. You can probably see samples of the original peplum in Victorian photographs. The modern peplum as it is being used in the catwalks today was popularized in the 1940s, with one difference – instead of being attached to the waistline of a dress, the peplum was a fabric that extended beyond the waist of a suit jacket. Today, peplums come in many shapes, sizes, styles, and embellishments – and this spring 2010 bridal trend is no exception.

vera wang wedding dress

Most girls imagine themselves in a white poufy dress when they walk down the aisle, but a number of designers today are coming up with colorful creations for fashion-forward brides. Pastel-colored wedding dresses are everywhere for spring 2010, and some of these dresses (like that gorgeous organza froth gown by Vera Wang photographed above) are simply too pretty to resist.

Would you wear a colored dress to your wedding?

pastel wedding dress 5

Enough with the fall 2010 trends for now – let’s talk about spring! Spring is my favorite season because designers make use of bright cheerful colors, breezy fabrics, and easygoing dresses. Next year’s brides have a lot of great trends to look forward to, such as nature-inspired wedding dresses and now pastel-colored wedding dresses. I first noticed this trend in Vera Wang’s spring 2010 bridal collection, but I thought the colored gowns were just expressions of her whimsy. Then I spotted pastel-colored gowns on Maggie Sottero’s spring 2010 collection as well. I love that designers are incorporating more color into their bridal collections, and that there are brides who are willing to go beyond tradition and wear something other than a white dress to their wedding.

On to Maggie Sottero’s collection!

Vera Wang Fall 2010 Bridal Collection

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Vera Wang’s fall 2010 bridal collection is features layers and layers of tulle, large cloud-like ruffles (including a little bit of the vertical ruffles trend), and oversized bows. You can’t mistake these dresses for anything but a Vera Wang creation because no other wedding designer I know can make tulle look so soft and fluffy.

Still sticking to her usual ethereal style, Vera Wang does introduce one new trend for fall 2010: black accents on white wedding dresses, usually a bow around the waist or the straps of the dress. It looks to me like a modern variant of the black lace wedding gowns popularized by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Sabrina.
