BCBGMAXAZRIA Bridesmaids Collection

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

I can’t believe I missed the announcement when it came! In any case, BCBGMAXAZRIA released a bridesmaids collection last December 2009. It’s a fairly good size of ten flattering dress silhouettes available in a wide range of colors like black, white, blush, ink blue, and champagne. What rocks about their debut collection is that they include a variety of standout styles, such as tiered short dresses, as well as more traditional long gowns. In any case, you can’t go wrong with a BCBGMAXAZRIA bridesmaids dress, because they’re so easy to wear for other occasions! I placed my favorites below.

Watters & Watters Bridesmaids Dresses

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

A few days ago, I contemplated wearing a column dress or evening gown to a friend’s wedding, even though I already have a perfectly good cocktail dress sitting in my closet. I finally received my wedding invitation last weekend, and it turns out that the dress code for women really is an evening gown. I panicked a little because the wedding is in less than two weeks, and I don’t own formal attire longer than a knee-length dress. Not to mention that now is the worst time to scour the malls for the right evening gown. The thing is, I don’t want just any mass-produced dress; to be perfectly honest, I think most evening gowns make women look like cheap lounge singers. I expected to spend at least five hours and five thousand pesos on the right evening gown that is to be my default wedding guest dress – but before doing so, I decided to explore cheaper options online.

watters and watters vneck dress

An initial search on eBay didn’t yield anything I liked, but a friend accidentally found some wedding wear for me while she was looking for her own evening gown of her own. It’s a v-neck empire dress from Watters & Watters just like the one shown above, except the one on eBay was a deep purple color. Aside from streamers below the deep v back, the dress is unembellished. I fell in love with it immediately – the style is slimming and flattering, the lack of embellishments makes it easy to accessorize, and it comes in my size. Best of all, the dress only cost P600! Out of curiosity I decided to Google the brand, and it turns out that Watters & Watters specializes in wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses. While the dress I bought is technically a bridesmaid’s dress, I suppose it’s all right for a wedding guest to wear it.

I was pretty impressed with Watters & Watters’ selection of bridesmaids dresses (wedding guest dresses?) and thought you guys might appreciate a look see. You might get some ideas for your bridesmaids or for a dress to wear to a friend’s wedding!

Five Fall 2010 Bridesmaids Dress Trends

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I don’t see anything wrong with always being the bridesmaid but never the bride if it means getting to wear and keep a gorgeous bridesmaids dress (if the dress is ugly, then it’s an entirely different story). Check out these fall 2010 bridesmaids dress trends fresh from the runway! I’m starting to wish my friends would hurry up and get married so I can have an excuse to dress up too.

Bateau Neckline

Designers everywhere are saying so long to strapless dresses and introducing more varied necklines. One of the hottest trends is the classy bateau neck, as seen in Melissa Sweet’s collection. I’m loving the dark purple hue too.

Wedding Trend: Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses

mismatched bridesmaids dresses

I personally think that there’s nothing tackier than identical bridesmaids dresses and I’m really thankful that I live in a time where mismatched bridesmaids dress are becoming increasingly popular. In most of the photos I’ve seen, bridesmaids wearing mismatched frocks pick dresses made of the same fabric, but in different styles and shades. There’s another way you can going about doing this: give your bridesmaids a color palette they should stick with and play around with different textures and fabrics. I’m so in love with the way Australian bride Ilana had her bridesmaids wear distinctive lace and chiffon dresses in shades of antique brulee and nougat. These gorgeous dresses add more visual interest to the wedding entourage and they can easily be worn to other special occasions. Another advantage of having a mismatched bridal party: you can buy the dresses at regular retail stores at regular prices, instead of making do with bridal salons’ inflated prices.
