Vintage Wedding Dresses

What bride doesn’t to look beautiful and unique during her wedding day? For a wedding dress that’s ultimately romantic and at the same time uncommon, consider buying a vintage wedding dress instead of a dress off the racks. Nothing screams “everlasting love” other than a classic, lacy white number that has stood the test of time. You can find a vintage wedding dress at your local vintage or antique store, and if you don’t want to trek that far there’s always eBay. I highly suggest that you get a dress from an actual store so you can try it on yourself and see if the cut flatters your figure or if it will require alterations.

Buying a vintage wedding dress from an actual store also gives you the opportunity to look out for flaws like stains and tears. Watch out for dresses that need repairs because vintage fabrics are very difficult to match with modern ones. To get it repaired by a professional seamstress will cost you around $200 but it may be a small price to pay if you’ve already fallen in love with it.

Be careful about selecting old dresses too because fabric breaks down and deteriorates with time. A wedding dress, however, is a special occasion outfit, which means it has only been worn once or maybe twice and was handled less than everyday garments. Take time to examine the fabric and look for any loose threads. A seamstress can fix this, but again it will definitely cost you.

Some specialty stores, like The Vintage Wedding Dress Company, sell repaired vintage wedding dresses. They’ll cost more than dresses from an antique store or vintage store, but at least you won’t have to go through the hassle of finding a reputable seamstress to fix your dress up for the big day.
