Spring 2009 Runway Trend: Two-Tone Wedding Gowns

Two-tone wedding gowns are the hottest thing off the Spring 2009 runways and a very elegant way to take a wedding dress beyond the basic look without doing anything too drastic. Two-tone wedding dresses usually have two contrasting but subtle colors, such as ivory and white, cream with blush, and ivory with champange.

Another simple two tone concept is to add a contrasting sash to a clean silhouette, and wear accessories that match the color of the sash. For instance, if you have an ivory-colored gown with a peach sash, look for pearl bridal jewelry in shades of rose or blush. The soft colors of the jewelry will accent the sash and bring the attention to your face.

Peek-a-boo layers are another popular type of two-town wedding dresses. The skirt of the gown has tiers with the main color of the wedding dress, but they split to reveal a contrasting color underneath. The layers can be split so that the second color always shows, or they can float open as the bride walks.

The double layered dress is another gorgeous two-tone wedding dress style. In double-layered dresses, there is a solid piece of fabric made out of lace or sheer material layered on top of a second color. For brides who don’t want to cut up their silhouette with bands of contrasting colors, this style allows you to have the interest and depth of two tones without any distracting breaks.

Choose a veil that matches the main color or any trim to the deeper shade of the dress. For instance, if you’re wearing a champagne wedding dress with an ivory sash, choose a champagne-colored veil with an ivory bias trim on the edges.
Two-tone wedding dresses are a great way to indulge in a runway trend without looking too avant garde, and its subtle effects will definitely stand the test of time.
