Ten years ago, the fashion world didn’t have much to offer for pregnant women; styles for maternity wedding gowns especially were severely limited. Today, there are many maternity gowns designed with the pregnant bride in mind to make her look as demure or as sophisticated as she wants.

Find a shop that carries a line for maternity bridal gowns or a couturier who will design a gown for you. Should you choose to go to a shop, make sure you call ahead if you already have a specific design in mind. It’s probably better to have a couturier design a gown for you because this will give you some control over what kind of look you want to achieve.

If you don’t feel confident about your expanding belly, draw attention away from it by looking for a style that hang loosely below the bustline. Look for bridal gowns that will highlight your features – fitted gowns made out of stretchy silk or a material cut on the bias are the best. The gown’s material will cling naturally to your skin and highlight your feminine curves.

To achieve a visual balance, choose a bridal gown with detailed embroidery on the bust. Embellishments on the bust area will keep people’s attentions focused on the upper part of your body and downplay any flaws on your torso.

Finally, make sure you bring the shoes you wish to wear during your wedding during the final fitting. This way the shop or the couturier can make adjustments on the length of your skirt and fix the way your dress hangs before your big day.
