Marchesa Fall/Winter 2011 RTW Collection

MARCHESA FW11 NEW YORK 02/15/11

Considering that Marchesa is a British label with romantic sensibilities, it’s surprising that they waited this long to release a collection inspired by Victorian sensibilities. But for this to happen, it took a moment of insomnia for Georgina Chapman, who happened to see David Lean’s Great Expectations and fell in love with its decaying opulence. These gowns are opulent indeed, though not so much decay. While there are touches of deconstruction here and there, a lace motif dominates the whole collection. It’s interesting to note that Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig did not use actual lace; instead, the intricate floral patterns are embroidered onto tulle using seed pearls and crystals. Let this beautiful collection inspire you as you plan the details for your own dramatic wedding.
