Korina Sanchez’s Pina Bridal Gown

When I was younger, I used to want TV broadcaster Korina Sanchez to end up with her co-anchor Ted Failon. As it turns out, she married senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II last Tuesday at the Santo Domingo church. There’s a lot of talk about how this union was done more for show rather than love but hey, I don’t really know anything about that. I’m just here to report on what Korina wore to her wedding.

It seems like the couple opted for a Filipiniana motif for their wedding, probably because of Mar Roxas’s position as senator. Korina’s serpentina-style wedding dress was designed by Pepito Albert and made of hand-embroidered pina fabric, which was also created by the designer himself. The dress’s empire cut features a gently draping bust line and panels that gently flare out into a subtle mermaid tail. You can’t really tell from this photo, but the dress has features miniature flowers, curlicues, leaves, and vines traced in small flat sequins for discreet sparkle.

The bust is strapless with off-shoulder sleeves and a modern panuelo, but to be perfectly honest I’m not too crazy about the sleeves. The large ruffled sleeves look a lot like 90s kitsch.

The wedding dress also features a five-meter hand-embroidered cathedral train gathered at the waist. All in all, it’s a very traditional look, except for one detail – Korina Sanchez chose not to wear a veil. Designer Pepito Albert thought that a wedding veil would obstruct the flow from the head to toe, which is why the bride ended up walking down the aisle without.
