fit bride

There’s just no avoiding the fact that you will be eating a lot during the holidays. Relatives will be passing platefuls of yummy morsels that you simply can’t refuse, for fear of insulting them or for fear of depriving your taste buds of something delicious. Some brides are lucky enough to eat whatever they want and still stay skinny. Others are not so lucky and will need diet, exercise, or a lot of self-restraint during Christmas. Here are some tips that will keep you trim during the holidays so you can still fit into your wedding dress after Christmas.

Choose what you eat

There will be a lot of food on the noche buena table, but there’s no rule that says you have to eat everything laid out in front of you. Stick to the lean proteins, like Christmas ham without the fat, lechon minus the skin, or barbecue. Avoid food cooked in copious amounts of oil or butter. Try to stay away from carb-rich foods like paella, pancit, cheese, and chips. It’s going to be difficult to avoid these, especially when your relatives keep offering to place some in your plate, but your future self will thank you later. Just explain to them that you’re trying to stay slim for your wedding dress – they’ll probably understand.

Drink moderately

Unfortunately, alcohol is another one of those waistline destroyers. You don’t have to stay sober and avoid alcohol all evening, but if you are to drink a cocktail or a glass of wine, make it a good one and make it your last one. Beer-loving brides-to-be will have to avoid their favorite beverage for the meantime in order to prevent or reduce their unsightly beer bellies.

Give in to your sweet tooth

It’s going to be tough avoiding the cakes, cookies, and miscellaneous desserts laid out after dinner. If your sweet tooth can’t resist these desserts, indulge in just one slice or piece and stay away from the dessert table for the rest of the evening. Giving in to your cravings with small portions will go a longer way than depriving yourself of sweets, only to binge on it when you do decide to give in.

Exercise

In the instance that you weren’t able to control yourself during Christmas, there’s no other choice left but to burn everything you ate with regular exercise. You don’t have to get a membership at a gym to do so; I suggest buying an exercise DVD and following the fitness program at home. A dance class, yoga, or walking will help. Just make sure you keep your heart rate up at least 30 minutes a day.

Invest in the right intimates

If your wedding dress is not forgiving to your body issues, investing in a panty girdle or or body wrap will keep you looking trim during your wedding day. Both intimates will provide complete coverage to flatten your tummy and smooth it all over. Make sure your body wrap is high enough under the dress; otherwise, there will be unsightly horizontal lines across your tummy, peeking through the wedding dress fabric.
