My only problem with weddings is that unless you’re a millionaire, it doesn’t make sense to spend thousands and thousands for the celebration and the dress when you can use that money to build a life together. Most brides-to-be get suckered into paying lots of money for dresses in bridal stores, but what they don’t know is that all of these dresses are made in China and that they can save so much money by going straight to the source.

Take your cue from two brides who have lucked out on finding their dream wedding dress at dirt-cheap prices. A couple of weeks ago, a 24-year old UK-based PE teacher named Suzanne Daniel bought a wedding dress on eBay for only 99 pence (photo above)! With shipping and insurance, the total package cost 86 pounds, but this amount of money wouldn’t have even gotten her a fancy hair clip at a bridal salon. Her dress definitely does not look like it cost her less than a pound, and I wonder how many British women feel daft about spending hundreds on their white wedding dress.

Another thrifty bride got featured on the news for her lucky find, this time at Australia. Hannah Kovacs paid only 18 Australian dollars on a China-made wedding dress that cost a whopping $1,500 at a local bridal salon (photo above)! All she did was find a bridal supplier from China on eBay, fork over $185 for shipping and insurance, and look gorgeous on her wedding day. At first, Hannah was worried that her wedding dress would spontaneously combust under the sun but when it comes to China-made wedding dresses, “cheap” does not mean low-quality. She looks absolutely amazing in her gauzy wedding dress.

So how do find cheap made-in-China wedding dresses? Here are some tips.

1) Most online stores of Chinese manufacturers only sell wholesale wedding dresses, so you’re better off searching on eBay. Use the keywords “wedding dress” or “white dress”, and slowly go through the pages and pages of search results.

2) As soon as you’ve found the right dress, don’t get too emotionally invested in it yet. Look at the seller’s reputation. Is there any bad feedback? If so, what? According to Miss Kovacs, her eBay seller had over 1,000 comments, and all of them were positive.

3) Ask the seller all the questions you have about the dress and shipping rates before you place a bid or click on the “buy it now” button.
