The romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is opening this week and is certainly not like a lot of romantic comedies out there. The story is about notorious bachelor Connor (Matthew McConaughey) and how he encounters the ghosts of three ex-girlfriends the day before his brother’s wedding. Costume designer Denise Wingate was in charge of picking out what everyone would wear to the movie, and her approach was very down-to-earth. Rather than having designers create custom dresses just for the film, she went around shopping like a real bride looking for great deals. The result is a mix of well known wedding dress designers like Amsale, and insider favorites Jenny Lee and Jenny Yoo.

In this scene, actress Jennifer Garner walks down the aisle in a wedding dress by Manuel Mota. To find the perfect wedding dress for Jennifer Garner, Denise Wingate behaved like any real bride would by choosing dozens of wedding dresses for the celebrity to try on. Her trailer was crammed with twenty different ball gown dresses, and this lacy strapless number from Manuel Mota ended up being the star’s pick.

Connor’s brother’s bride (Lacey Chabert) says “I do” in a wedding dress by Jenny Lee. Denise Wingate likes this particular dress because it gives the wedding a timeless, classic look that won’t look dated in photographs.

The bridesmaids wore rich burgundy cocktail dresses by Jenny Yoo. Denise Wingate highly recommends Jenny Yoo’s shop for her beautiful dresses and helpful shop attendants who knew exactly what they were doing.
