Fall 2010 Trend: Coat Dresses

Here’s a trend for our readers in colder climes: coat dresses or coat and dress ensembles are a chic way to stay warm during winter weddings. A coatdress is a knee or floor-length light winter coat with dress-like detailing, e.g. ruffles. A coat and dress ensemble, on the other hand, is a light coat with a white dress made of matching fabric underneath.

Back in the 1960s, coat and dress ensembles were the thing to wear during weddings and other formal occasions. Although brides didn’t wear them per se, designers are slowly reintroducing the style in their collections this year.

If you’re getting married somewhere cold, consider wearing a fitted coat during the ceremony over a matching dress. When the ceremony is over, you can take off the coat and walk freely around the reception.
